My recent work reflects a lifetime spent among the rocks, by the water and in the woods along the Maine coast. Through connection to the land, I drop into true belonging and feel compelled to make images. With oils, water media, ink, charcoal and sometime sea water or sand from the flats, I draw the pulse of life. It has become clear to me that when we open to the joy of nature, nature takes joy in us. Attending to this essential exchange and interconnectedness is core to my life and work. Whether working in-studio or on location, rich sensory and internal experiences are transmuted with paint into a pictorial language of observational abstraction - a conversation between what is seen, felt, imagined and remembered.
